Students Reap the Benefits of In-School Banking
Charter Oak Presents Student with New Laptop Computer
Groton, CT-December 9, 2008-Charter Oak Federal Credit Union presented Fitch High School student Desirae Santos with a new, Acer Inspire Notebook computer on Friday, December 5th. Santos had entered the drawing to win the computer in early September, when Charter Oak initiated the promotion in celebration of the new school year and the reopening of the Fitch branch.
The laptop giveaway is just one of many promotions and giveaways sponsored by the Groton-based credit union in order to encourage students at the high school to begin taking control of their finances and planning for a strong, healthy financial future. From pens, pocket folders, to book bags, foam fingers and calculators, the students are reminded where they can do their banking. Students get a dose of financial education too; with the credit union requiring students to review chapters in the National Endowment for Financial Education's program book before opening an account at the credit union. With close to sixty students and faculty members coming in each week to open accounts or make transactions, the credit union has become a convenient and educational way for students to start saving for the road ahead.
