NEW SCHOOL, NEW JOBS

10 Killingly Students Begin Training to Work as Tellers
in Charter Oak’s New High School Branch

Groton, CT-August 19, 2010 – Ten Killingly High School students are already getting ready to go back to school. That’s because they are currently training for their new jobs at Charter Oak’s second high school branch, which is scheduled to open September 1st -just in time for the first day of school at the brand new Killingly High.

Training with longtime Credit Union employee and Training Specialist Tracy Stedman, students Christine Gagnon, Chris Haveles, Errin Joly, John Stepalavich, Kayla Mortimer, Kelcy McCabe, Luke Stanislawski, Matt Marcotte, Megan Robinson and Scott Walker will be spending four days learning the basics and another two days working the teller line at the Credit Union’s Dayville branch.

After interviewing with Charter Oak’s Senior Vice President of Administration, Patricia Lima and Dayville and Killingly Branch Manager Sonya Armstrong, student tellers were hired based on their enthusiasm for financial literacy and their desire to work in the branch. In addition to earning an hourly wage for their efforts, Charter Oak’s student tellers will have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how financial institutions operate -receiving training in Credit Union operations, while learning specific job skills. These students will also serve as financial education ambassadors, sharing their knowledge of personal finance with their fellow students throughout the year.
