FITCH STUDENTS CAN COUNT ON CHARTER OAK
Students Process 16,400 Pennies Free of Charge at Charter Oak's Long Hill Road Branch
Groton, CT - Three Fitch High School students stopped into Charter Oak's Long Hill Road branch in Groton on Friday, November 22nd to process 16,400 pennies through the credit union's coin machine. Fitch students have been collecting pennies during their weekly mentor/mentee sessions at the school since mid-October. Raising $164 for the Groton Food Locker, students and staff are helping to feed needy families this winter.
Charter Oak's Long Hill Road Branch Manager Deb Berardi and Fitch tellers Tracy Stedman and Mary Meyers, were on-hand to oversee the counting process and to remove full bags of coins for the students. One of the students participating works several hours a week at Charter Oak's Fitch branch, which is located just down from the school's cafeteria. The credit union opened the branch last April, in hopes of educating young adults about the importance of financial responsibility and planning.
