CHARTER OAK’S COMMUNITY GIVING PROGRAM AWARDS OVER $30K TO LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS

Charter Oak Awards 16 Organizations Over $30,000 & Announces July 1st Application Deadline for Third Quarter Giving Cycle

Groton, CT-June 24, 2011-Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s Community Giving Program has announced its latest round of funding recipients, which include 16 local community groups and non-profits. Organizations that will receive varying amounts totaling over $30,000 from the Program’s second quarter giving cycle are Big Brothers, Big Sisters of SECT; Precious Passage Therapy; the Diocese of Norwich’s Office of Prison Ministry; the Eastern CT Symphony Orchestra; Field of Greens Farmers’ Market; the Little Angels Program; OIC of New London County, Inc.; R.I.S.E.N.; S.T.E.P.S., Inc.; 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps; United Community & Family Services; United Way of SECT; Waterford Country School; Children’s Museum of SECT; New London’s Homeless to Hopeful Benefit Dance and New London Community Boating, Inc. Initiatives benefiting from these contributions include mentoring programs for children of prisoners, dental equipment to better serve disabled individuals; bicycles for youth in the Windham area and boating scholarships for New London children.

Over 110 organizations have received nearly $74,000 in funding through Charter Oak’s charitable giving program this year, which provides grants and sponsorships to organizations serving the residents of New London or Windham counties. Donating over $290,000 since the Program’s inception in 2009, Charter Oak’s charitable efforts have received numerous awards, including the Credit Union National Association’s Diamond Merit Award for Best Community Program.

Organizations interested in applying for support can do so at any time by submitting applications, which are available at any Charter Oak branch location or online at www.CharterOak.org. Requests $2,500 and over are reviewed quarterly and the next submission deadline for third quarter requests is July 1st.
