CHARTER OAK WALKS TO FIGHT HEART DISEASE!
COFCU Staff Walk 3,735.21 Miles to Raise Money for Heart Research
Groton, CT-October 22, 2009- Raising close to $4,000, dozens of Charter Oak employees participated in the Credit Union's Walk to Hawaii Challenge in order to raise money for the American Heart Association (AHA) and their efforts to prevent, treat and defeat cardiovascular disease.
Encouraging employees to walk as many miles as possible, Charter Oak's Community Giving Program challenged Credit Union staff to walk the distance to Hawaii (or 5,782 miles) during their lunch breaks and free time. Donating 50 cents for every mile walked, Charter Oak's Community Giving Program helped employees raise $1,867.61, in addition to monies raised by individuals and in-branch paper heart sales.
Lead by Team Captains Lori Carofano and Traci Webster, the Chicago Avenue branch walked the greatest distance (1,411.67 miles), while Employee Eunice Brooks was the Challenge's pace setter, with close to 200 miles walked!
