Institute's
Resource Fair to Teach Inmates How to Budget Upon Their
Release
Groton, CT - On April 2, 2009 from 8am-3pm, Charter Oak's Waterford Branch Manager Virgen Pettini and Member Service Representative Noemi Centeno will be helping inmates with two years or less in their sentence to learn the basics of financial planning. Part of an annual Resource Fair planned by the correctional facility as a means to prepare inmates for life after prison, Pettini plans to conduct presentations on how to open checking and savings accounts, as well as how to create and maintain household budgets.

Virgen Pettini
Basing most of her teachings on the same financial planning program Charter Oak implemented when opening their branch at Fitch High School, Virgen Pettini attends the event every year which also features a variety of other vendors. Accompanied by Charter Oak staff member Noemi Centeno, Pettini finds that their ability to speak Spanish makes the day even more successful because it allows them to reach and educate the Hispanic portion of the prison population.
