CHARTER OAK GRANT GOES A LONG WAY
WITH SUMMER JOB PROGRAM
Credit Union’s $3,500 Community Giving Grant Earns EWIB $24,000 in TANF Emergency Funds for CT Summer Employment Program
Groton, CT-July 6, 2010 - A recent grant awarded by Charter Oak Federal Credit Union will go a long way in helping young adults find jobs this summer. For every $1.50 in funding awarded by Charter Oak and other organizations, the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board receives $10 to $15 in federal TANF funds for summer youth and adult employment. Charter Oak’s recent $3,500 grant will provide the EWIB with at least $24,000, which will be used to expand its existing subsidized employment programs set up in the area.
With Charter Oak’s Community Giving donation and contributions from other regional sponsors, the EWIB plans on employing 642 individuals from the region for approximately six weeks at $8.25 an hour. Providing valuable job skills and experience, the EWIB’s Summer Employment Program also serves to provide job opportunities for low-income populations. With worksites located throughout Eastern CT (such as town halls, libraries, restaurants and community agencies), the EWIB has partnered with EASTCONN, the New London Office of Youth Affairs and Norwich Youth & Family Services to provide summer employment opportunities through September.
