CHARTER OAK AWARDS $29K
TO COMMUNITY GROUPS IN THIRD QUARTER

Charter Oak Awards $29,000 to 48 Organizations During Third Quarter

Groton, CT - September 5, 2011 - Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has announced that 48 local community groups and non-profits received $29,000 from the Credit Union’s charitable giving program during the third quarter.

Latest funding recipients include Martin House-a $5,000 grant to help formerly homeless residents obtain and maintain employment; New London Youth Affairs-a $3,500 grant to support multi-disciplinary educational opportunities for inner-city, New London youth; Catholic Charities-a $3,000 grant to provide emergency basic needs assistance and case management services for individuals and families in need; Thames River Community Service, Inc.-a $2,500 grant to support a transitional living program for single mothers; Ledyard Youth & Social Services-a $2,400 grant to subsidize enrollment fees for low-income families participating in Parks & Recreation and Youth League programs; The Riverfront Children’s Center, Inc.-a $2,250 grant to replace the centers crumbling emergency escape stairwell; Buckingham Community Services-a $1,000 grant to assist with a fundraiser being implemented in support of community recreation activities for disabled individuals; Eastern CT Ballet-a $1,000 Partnership to support the Community Ticket Initiative which will provide free Nutcracker tickets to underserved families; St. Vincent de Paul Place-a $1,000 grant to fund computer system upgrades and the Hygienic Art, Inc.-a $500 grant to support the youth creative writing program-Do the Write Thing.

Since January, nearly 160 organizations have received over $127,000 in funding. Providing grants and sponsorships to organizations serving New London or Windham counties, Charter Oak’s Community Giving Program invites organizations in need of funding to apply for support. Applications can be found on the Credit Union’s website, www.charteroak.org, or can be picked up at any of Charter Oak’s 11 branch locations. Requests $2,500 and over are reviewed quarterly and the next submission deadline for third quarter requests is October 1st.
